icare workers insurance is the Workers Compensation Nominal Insurer and the statutory workers compensation insurer under the Workers Compensation Act 1987. Insurance & Care NSW (icare), a Public Financial Enterprise governed by an independent Board of Directors acts on behalf of Workers Insurance to deliver workers compensation insurance and care services to the people of New South Wales.
We offer simple and affordable insurance, injury protection and return-to-work solutions. We also support workers’ long-term care needs to improve quality of life outcomes, including helping people return to work.
We’re committed to delivering a consistent, high-quality customer experience. We do this by actively engaging with our customers and the NSW community to build a NSW Workers Insurance Scheme that rewards employers who focus on the safety and return-to-work of their employees. We’re also developing a simpler, fairer and more transparent claims process that empowers injured workers and employers.
The 276,000 businesses and 3.3 million workers protected by icare workers insurance benefit from a strong and responsive Workers Insurance Scheme, which also benefits the NSW community in general.
icare was created in September 2015 through the commencement of the State Insurance and Care Governance Act 2015.
In September 2015, the former WorkCover Authority of NSW was abolished and its functions were assumed by three discrete government organisations to promote a simple, efficient and engaging experience for the people of NSW:
- icare (Insurance & Care NSW) – a single customer-focused insurance and care service provider
- State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) – an independent insurance regulator
- SafeWork NSW – an independent workplace safety regulator
icare workers insurance operates from a person-centered perspective and we aim to change the way people think about insurance and care by providing world class services to people, businesses and communities
